Photos Reveal our Planet is more Incredible
than any Fantasy; more Breathtaking than Sci-Fi

' Tis strange - but true; for truth is always strange;
Stranger than fiction; if it could be told,
How much would novels gain by the exchange!
How differently the world would men behold!
How oft would vice and virtue places change!
The new world would be nothing to the old,
If some Columbus of the moral seas
Would show mankind their souls' antipodes.
Image: Monte Roraima, Venezuela

Today, something a little different.  We came across a dynamic list of the 30+ unbelievable places that look like they’re from another planet and decided to share some our favourites. Some of these photos look down-right alien, but make no mistake: they are for the most part untouched photos of actual places right here on our planet.

Image: Glowworms Cave, New Zealand

Image: Tianzi Mountains, China

So what’s the point of sharing these photos? Well for starters, it is important for us to realize that even these seemingly bizarre and other-worldly locales are both host to an ecosystem and themselves part of a larger ecosystem—in fact, the biosphere of the entire planet. It just goes to show how diverse ecosystems be and how extreme lengths nature has to go to in order to exist.

Image: Naica Mine, Mexico

Image: Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland

There is no question these photos also ignite the imagination. If any of these locales seem familiar to you, it’s likely because they have inspired settings in popular fantasy and science fiction films and television programs.

Image: Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA

Image: Zhangye Danxia Landform in Gansu, China

There is also an unquestionable beauty to these locales. Inhospitable as some may be to us, they are nonetheless compelling in their strangeness, wholly encaptivating…and not just visually. It is with absolute certainty that we can state as amazing as these photos may be, they do not, cannot hold a candle to actually being there and experiencing such expressions of nature in person.

No doubt the growing popularity of eco-tourism is one of the reasons these photographs even exist. Human beings are explorers by nature. It’s not only that we crave novelty; we long for knowledge…and not just the knowledge we get from reading books or watching documentaries. We long for experiential knowledge. There is nothing like having being there, done that no matter where “there” may be, and no matter what “that” was.

Image: Glowing Beach in Maldeves

Image: Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia

The question is, can we experience a taste of that exploration and discovery in our everyday lives without having to spend all the time, money and effort to take a trip to a far off land? Is there a way to experience the excitement, wonder and beauty of new discovery in our home, workplace, school, wherever we live, work or play?

Image: Dallol Volcano, Ethiopia

Image: Ice Cave near Mutnovsky Volcano, Russia

The answer is YES.

Consider this: no matter how spectacular a location may be, you get to experience it for a few days—possibly weeks. Unless you are very lucky and supremely committed, you will very rarely ever get to experience the changing face of such locations over time. After all, nature is not static. Nature grows, changes, adapts. A snapshot in time will only ever be just that…a memory.

Image: Spotted Lake, Canada

Put another way, eco-tourism and travelling to the ends of the earth to witness the oddities and extraordinary wonders of the natural world will not result in a deep relationship between you and those places. They may result in vivid memories in your mind, and perhaps a pining in your heart to return someday, but you will not have a deep comprehension of the rhythms of those places, the ongoing harmonic effects of being there throughout the seasons, nor the wonder of watching these incredible expressions of nature adapt, evolve, grow and/or even die.

But with an ecosystem from PeapodLife, you CAN. And although we can’t promise you a landscape like that in these photos, we can promise there is ALWAYS something new and exciting in our ecosystems. Whether it’s an orchid blooming, moss growing, plants advancing, others receding, fish bearing young, snails multiplying, you get to watch your own “interior landscape” grow and evolve and both respond to your moods and improving your moods.  We hesitate to say life with an ecosystem is more similar to having a pet than a garden, but many who live with an ecosystem describe it that way.

The truth really is stranger than fiction. When you really think about it, that means the promise of nature is not to bring biology into your life but magic. It’s just another aspect of Advanced Human Habitat for you to EXPLORE.

“Save the Canadians” Campaign Launched:
Rainforest Plants & Animals for Overworked Canadians

Video: ICT Costa Rica Tourism - Save the Canadians

You can’t make this stuff up. Well, maybe you can…sort of (i.e. singing animals organizing politically).

The point is, an endearing website has been launched by Costa Rica Tourism to “Save the Canadians.”

Image: SavetheCanadians.org

The website not only features singing denizens of the tropical Costa Rican rainforest, it has a great deal of maps, information on destinations, and tempting photos inviting visitors to “Explore [their] Human Habitats.”

Image Collage by PeapodLife: Explore Human Habitats in Costa Rica

The site also many features numerous videos highlighting the many beautiful destinations one can visit in Costa Rica, such as La Paz Waterfall Gardens.

Video: La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Costa Rica

We at PeapodLife applaud the efforts by Costa Rica’s rainforest ecosystem flora and fauna to save Canadians from the drudgery and toxicity of their daily workplace. And while getting away to a beautiful place like Costa Rica for a week or two every year is a good start, it won’t “save the Canadians…”

And Mother Nature knows it.

That’s why some of those dedicated rainforest plants and animals from Costa Rica have chosen to come north to Canada to partner with PeapodLife in bringing the beauty, relaxation, invigoration and healing powers of high order rainforest ecosystems to Canadian homes and workplaces 365 days a year.

Life After Digital shows Need to bring Balance to the Dark Side

Video: How digital technology and social media impacts our lives
Credit: TVO
“That Place…is strong with the Dark Side of the Force. A domain of evil it is. In you must go.
[Luke: What’s in there?] Only what you take with you.”
~ George Lucas via Yoda, Star Wars
Image: Social Media Hell

Everything has a dark side. Unfortunately, there’s only one way to get past it…we have to descend into it, experience it, go through it, so we may discover something about ourselves and emerge into the light on the other side.

Digital technology and social media are having impacts on our lives no one could have ever imagined or predicted.  People are finding themselves descending into depths of darkness and depravity that are beyond disturbing—they are life-altering (in some cases terminally) experiences.

Last night TV Ontario aired a documentary: Life After Digital, which not only looked at the rise of interactive technology in our lives, but the emergence of social media and the impacts they are having on us. Some positive, others anything but.

From the tragic, much-publicized case of online predation and cyber-bullying which led to the suicide of Amanda Todd, to the emergence of “revenge porn,” the documentary obviously looked at some pretty dark extremes.

But it also looked at some of the more subtle yet ubiquitous effects of technology on our lives. For instance, the allure of the Internet as a shortcut to fame and/or fortune. Or the lingering anxiety we feel for the approval of others measured in “friends, followers, and likes.”

You can watch the documentary online here. Also, be sure to watch The Agenda with Steve Paikin TONIGHT on TVO (Thursday 16th of October, 8pm & 11pm) for an in-depth panel discussion on the issues raised in the documentary.

Image: The Agenda with Steve Paikin

For our part, we thought we’d get our two cents in ahead of time, by going a bit deeper into this thing called the worldwide web and ask some tough questions.

A Mirror for Humanity

For starters, is it not obvious that the worldwide web is an outward expression of the collective unconscious of the planet? Two glaringly obvious facts support this assertion of truth:
  1. Everything on the Internet came from someone’s mind at some point in time.
  2. Everything that persists on the Internet does so because it appeals to something in people’s minds. Not just one or two people, either…thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands (or more).

This is not an easy fact to swallow. But a fact it is. Wishing it were otherwise or pretending that somehow we are exempt from it does not change it. We are culpable. We are not innocent.

After all, have we not all chuckled at some Internet meme, at a YouTube “fail” video featuring the mishaps and suffering of others? Have we not all sent nasty emails or “flamed” someone in a comment?  Downloaded “free” music, movies, software, etc.? Indulged in fantasies of every kind, from real or simulated violence to real or simulated pornography to…[fill in the blanks]?

And if not, have we congregated online with like-minded individuals to point fingers, condemn all that is wrong with the world and assert our own “holier than thou” positions of being “in the right?”

All that and more is there, online. And all that and more is here, inside our own psyche. The thing about technology is that it brings our dark side up and out of us.
“He’s more machine now, then man…twisted and evil.”
~ George Lucas via Obi Wan Kenobi, Star Wars
Image: Darth Vader Mosaic

We are products of our environment, and we are what we eat. The more we interact with each other and the world through the mechanistic medium of digital technology and social media, the more we strengthen the binary, mechanical processes in our own psyche: black or white, yes or no, right or wrong, us or them. Action– reaction. Stimulus – response. Input, output.  Automatic. Unconscious.

There is no middle way in technology. No softness, no kindness, no compassion, nothing gentle. Forget the soothing voice of Apple’s Siri…there is no love there. Just programming. The more we engage in programming, the more programmed we become. It is a fact. It is undeniable.

And what is that programming? What is running on the program of our subconscious mind? We need look no further than the Internet: conspiracy theories, personal professional and philosophical attacks, revenge porn, identity theft, hacking, binge-watching, time-wasting, etc. Fear, anger, pride, lust, greed, laziness, etc.

The more identified we become with technology, the more it becomes a part of us…the more it becomes us…the more we become it. We lose our humanity in the process. Don’t believe us? Just consider the new wearables and the enthusiastic anticipation—if not outright euphoria—being expressed online for the arrival of these gadgets and devices.

Image (modified): Montage of Wearable Technologies

What’s even worse is the pseudo-esoteric talk of the “singularity” being promoted by the likes of Raymond Kurzweil and others, who actually see the evolution of humanity taking place through the proliferation of the very technologies that threaten our core values.

Is there an antidote?

There has always been a place of refuge from the monstrosities imposed on humanity which emerge from the depths of human depravity itself: nature.

Many have expounded on the virtues of nature to soothe and invigorate, inspire and insight, relax and rejuvenate, to help one reconnect with one’s true self. And we certainly don’t need to repeat ourselves for the umpteenth time.

We will mention that in recent years, the natural havens and sanctuaries of the world are becoming an ever-scarcer resource, as multinational corporations and our voracious appetites for consumption have placed a higher valued on “natural resources” via the decimation of pristine environments.

And let’s face it, living our life at the speed of the digital age means we don’t all have the time or energy to spend walking in nature an hour a day (especially not when we have a backlog of hundreds of emails, dozens of IM’s, countless tweets, several episodes of our favourite show on the PVR we need to catch up on…not to mention the vacation pics to post and the latest version of “this or that” software to download and install).

ENOUGH ALREADY! If we can’t get away into nature, how about inviting nature back into our lives?

An indoor ecosystem fills our living space with an electromagnetic field resonating with harmony and symbiosis…the exact opposite of the vibrations we experience in social media hell.

Where social media is all often about everybody expressing their “opinions” in short, reactionary, oftentimes offensive ways, an indoor ecosystem is about experiencing the peace and harmony of who you really are.

Where the internet is all about bringing out and feeding the darker aspects of our psyche, the ecosystem is about bringing forth and nourishing our better, brighter, Higher Self…the part of us which longs for the end of all suffering for all creatures…for calm, wellness, peace, harmony, joy and happiness.

These are the “killer apps” of an indoor rainforest ecosystem from PeapodLife.

Nature’s Perfection Recorded Beautifully:
Birds on The Wires is Music to Our Ears

VIDEO: Birds On The Wires - LIVE- [Official Version] (HD) TEDx São Paulo by Gabriel agnelli
Source: YouTube: http://youtu.be/Rt5R0dZKIho

Every now and then we come across a story, photo or video online that just makes our day. This is one of them.

Posted yesterday on Huffington Post Arts & Culture section, the video by Jarbas Agnelli is testament to the beauty that’s possible when our own creative intuition—imagination, inspiration, whichever word speaks to you—conspires with that of nature itself to create a work of wonder.

The original photo of the birds on electric wires, taken by Paulo Pinto, was published in 2009 in the Brazilian Newspaper, "O Estado de São Paulo."

Agnelli recounts the episode:
"Reading the newspaper one morning, I saw this picture of birds on the electric wires…I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes. I was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating…I just erased the birds for effect at the end, but didn't change their positions at all. What would be the point?"
~ Jarbas Agnelli

Agnelli isn’t the first musician to be inspired by nature, and we certainly hope he won’t be the last. Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, so it is said, was famously inspired by the ortolan bunting (E. hortulana).

VIDEO: Saving the songbird that inspired Beethoven by swissinfovideos
Source: YouTube: http://youtu.be/9o8XD00tEfs

Both Agnelli and Beethoven stand in the company of countless painters, sculptors, writers, playwrights, designers, philosophers, theologians, scientists, and engineers of all stripes and disciplines, who saw something in nature (we use the term “to see” in the esoteric sense: felt, heard, sensed, et al).

What did they see? Beauty. Truth. Answers to their deepest questions and fulfillment of their most profound longings. This tradition continues, from art to biomimicry, but for how long?

As the Swiss TV video reports, the little bird that inspired one of the greatest pieces of music written, is at risk of extinction in Switzerland, though efforts are being made to preserve and revitalize its habitat.

What’s more, this humanity all too often sees not with the intuitive “third eye” of the heart, but rather the cold, heartless rational eyes of the head: missing the deeper Truths nature has to teach us in favour of superficial observations that support our highly intellectual, subjective and egoistic worldviews.

Case in point: a most troubling blog posted on HuffPost Green by Carl Pope, “Takers and Makers in the Rain Forest.”   Despite being the former Executive Director and Chairman of Sierra Club, Pope examines the relationship between Ficus, the so-called “strangler figs,” and other types of trees in the rainforest in capitalist terminology.

Image: The inside of Ficus auereus, “the strangler fig,” long after it’s host tree has perished.

And although his ultimate conclusion seems benign enough, (that it’s better if we do not behave like the strangler fig) his supposition is entirely flawed and subjective:
"The approach the strangler takes to success -- exploit the efforts of others, and value speed and aggression above everything else -- can, indeed, prove "competitive.""

Only a mind conditioned by humanity’s modus operendi of exploitation of nature sees exploitation within nature. Mr. Pope ignores the infinite complexity and intelligence of the high-order ecosystems in which Ficus and its “hosts” are born, live, sacrifice and die. Yes, sacrifice.

Until one listens to the stillness within one’s own heart, like Beethoven, Agnelli, and countless geniuses and masters of their craft did, one will not be inspired by nature to create works of Truth and beauty, worthy of posterity and the ages.

While one only remains in the cold prison of the intellect, subjective and conditioned by “the big machine” that humanity built, one will only produce intellectual drivel aligned with the status quo…just more uninspired baying by another uncreative sheep.

That said, the more one opens oneself to the ecosystem, to the deeper truth of nature: that mutual harmony and symbiosis are its modus operendi, the more one will have access to authentic inspiration, imagination, creative intuition, outside-the-box thinking, and all the faculties of awakening consciousness employed by all the great masters throughout history.

And that, dear friends, is an enterprise worth pursuing, singing about, or at the very least, humming along to…

Stuck at Work? Take a 10-Minute Break in Cottage Country
(& Skip Getting Stuck on Highway 400)

Stuck at Work? Take a 10-Minute Break in Cottage Country; image by PeapodLife
Image by PeapodLife: Stuck at Work? Take a 10-Minute Break in Cottage Country

The summer may be over and winter may be fast approaching. Let’s take a moment to reflect on some of the wonderful memories you may be sharing with thousands of Toronto residents who savoured every last minute of their precious long weekends up north in cottage country:
  • Traffic
  • Wasted time (traffic)
  • Bugs
  • Jockeying for position on the highway
  • Jockeying for good campsites in crowded parks
  • “WTF!?” Weather Forecasts
  • Did we mention traffic?

Truly, Torontonians long weekend excursions up north can really be summed up in one visual:

Being Up North and Getting Up North, image collage
Image Collage: Being Up North & Getting Up North

So why do we put ourselves through it? One word: SANCTUARY.

Most human beings crave some sort of reprieve from the daily grind of the big city. The concrete jungle, boss, employees, co-workers, commute, crowds, noise, hustle & bustle…we can only take so much before we need to fill our lungs with a huge breathe of fresh air and give off an extended sigh of relief.

What if you could have that sigh of relief whenever you needed it at work, 5 days a week, 365 days a year? What if that feeling of “AHH!” we so look forward to on the long weekends didn’t come after all the hours and aggravation of getting there? With Advanced Human Habitat, your “AHH!” could be here…now.

An Extended Sigh of Relief in Nature, Here & Now in Advanced Human Habitat: AHH!
Image Collage: An Extended Sigh of Relief in Nature, Here & Now in Advanced Human Habitat: AHH!

Indoor ecosystems are the key to creating a new level of focused relaxation and invigoration in the workplace. It’s possible to bathe ourselves in the same calming and healing energies we so desperately crave from nature, and are seemingly willing to go to almost any lengths to get.

Let’s be honest here: whether you buy your own cottage, rent a B&B, or even a campground, after you factor in the time, gas, accessories, meals, etc. your long-weekend excursion isn’t exactly cheap (and with a half-day travel there, and another half-a-day back, you effectively only get two days of “Ahh!”

The expense of immersing ourselves in the beauty, tranquility and vitality of natural spaces is nothing compared to the benefits we feel we get in return. We feel better, rejuvenated, inspired even. We can return to our work with a renewed sense of “anything’s possible!” We may return with a fresh idea, a new solution to an old problem, or an inspired insight on a troubling issue we were facing.

We are more likely to have fresh thoughts when we feel refreshed. Now imagine if you could get that fresh feeling, whenever you needed it at work. All you need to do is step back from the stressful situation and negative energy confronting you, and take in your workplace ecosystem sanctuary from PeapodLife, with its inspiring natural microclimate and positive energy enveloping you.

When you finish your little 10 minute sojourn up north, you’ll return to the situation with new eyes, a fresh outlook, and greet even the most challenging of circumstances with a smile.  Just imagine what challenges you (and/or your team) can successfully confront when an ecosystem’s got your back.

That’s why we say it’s not only advanced habitat for humans; it’s habitat for advanced humans. PeapodLife Building Ecosystems & Technology: Advanced Human Habitat. “AHH,” indeed.

Presenting GenesisEcoFund.org: Advocate for Advanced Human Habitat

GenesisEcoFund.org: Advanced Habitat for Advanced Humans
Image: Advanced Habitat for Advanced Humans by Genesis Eco Fund

“In the spirit of the proverbial Garden of Eden…Advanced Human Habitat…a platform for greater achievements and the actualization of our inherent potential.”
~ genesisecofund.org: Genesis Eco Fund: Mandate

It is with great pleasure that we introduce Genesis Eco Fund for Advanced Human Habitat.

This organization will serve as the not-for-profit arm of PeapodLife. We are excited by this announcement, as it will give PeapodLife greater reach, and provide the public another vehicle with which to engage, explore and understand the importance of reducing the toxicity of indoor environments and enhancing the spaces in which they live, work, play, learn and heal.

Amongst its activities are research and development, education, advocacy and relief for and community building around Advanced Human Habitat (AHH).

At the heart of AHH are ecosystems. At the heart of Genesis is Ecosystem Relief, a program intended to offer financial incentives to health care centres, special needs schools and other organizations who might not be able to afford indoor ecosystem technologies.

Genesis advances the capabilities of AHH via R&D, including partnerships with academic institutions, NGO’s and other organizations, and industry to explore integration of ecosystems into buildings and other green technologies.

Education and Community Building are critical to Genesis’ mandate, since coming generations will require the best possible environments to support them as they reach beyond the limits of our understanding.

PeapodLife is proud to support Genesis Eco Fund, with a portion of every ecosystem sold going to Genesis.

Recreating Eden: Designing Paradise (Video)

Image: John Hardy’s Green Lifestyle in Bali is the epitome of modern economic lifestyle in harmony with nature.

Has John Hardy discovered the Ultimate Expression of “the PeapodLife” in Bali?

"We’re living in one of the most beautiful places on the planet we don’t need ornamentation."
~ John Hardy
Source: recreatingeden.com: Designing Paradise

In the west, we hear terms like “green living,” “eco-lifestyle” and the like thrown about like a Frisbee. These buzz-words span the sustainability spectrum from flat-out green washing to living off-grid under a rock in the Yukon.  But what does it really mean, practically speaking?

Most “environmentally friendly” consumers in Canada fall somewhere in the middle of the sustainability continuum, buying energy efficient homes, Energy Star appliances and organic food (when they can get it and can afford it), and try to recycle and ride their bike to work as much as possible.

But is that really “green?” Even those who have small gardens or participate in community permaculture projects in Toronto and other cities…how connected are people with their environment? Is it even conceivable given North American climate and lifestyle to imagine something different?

Is it possible for us to visit a place that successfully melds the demands of modern economics and lifestyle with truly green living? Living one with nature in mutual symbiosis?

Canadian-born luxury jeweler Tom Hardy has an answer. He not only lives in Bali, his sprawling estate includes organic permaculture and aquatic farming, renewable energy, waste reclamation and a jewelry design and crafting operation employing over 500 people.

Watch the video: Recreating Eden, Designing Paradise (full episode) and see for yourself.

But let’s be honest: how realistic is this in Canada? For starters, we don’t have bamboo. And while the Innuit can live in ice houses up north, igloos are not a practical solution for the winter month in Southern Ontario. Lastly, what about fall and spring?

Layer on the other realities of living in Canada, we are stuck with a bit of a conundrum. And yet, there is hope!

Tom Hardy has captured the essence of what PeapodLife is: fresh air, living water, organic food, a healthy shelter that is one with nature. The difference is, whereas in Bali and elsewhere around the world (and up until the 20th Century), nature can support it, in Canada, we support nature.

In many ways, PeapodLife represents a complete turnaround…not an evolution of living, a REVOLUTION in living. Human structures and technology supporting indoor ecosystems, which then, in turn, turnaround and support us right back! In this simple way alone PeapodLife is truly “revolutionary.”

When you think about “recreating eden,” you have to begin with an origin; a foundation. Tom Hardy began with what he had to work with: the lush living natural surroundings of Bali, and he’s not stopping with his home and business. He has moved onto Green Education, which you can learn more about on the inaugural Genesis Foundation Blog.

PeapodLife begins with what we have to work with: our modern homes, sick buildings, and concrete jungles of cold steel and glass…lifeless…draining…stressful.

But what if we can turn the lifeless interiors of our modern post-industrial cityscapes (Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver et al) into Advanced Human Habitats capable of supporting that very essence of the lush Balinese lifestyle? This is the revolutionary genius of the PeapodLife for Canada.

Seven Steps of Truly Sustainable Building Science

CBC.ca Video: Imagine the Fire
How reviving the aboriginal practice of controlled fires could be good for land and wildlife. This story was produced with the support of the Bill Lane Centre for American West
The National | Jun 19, 2013 | 14:24

Residential Building Science Experts Take Note: Sustainable Buildings = Ecosystem Management

Igne Natura Renovatur Integra (INRI): “All Nature Will Be Renewed By Fire; alchemists' aphorism)”
Definition Source/Credit: The Free Online Dictionary: Igne Natura Renovatur Integra

What does this CBC National news feature story by Duncan McCue have to do with sustainable buildings? At PeapodLife, our commercial and residential building science experts know that truly sustainable buildings will be based not on components or systems, but ecosystems.

As Duncan McCue’s feature on The National points out, the Dene Nation of Northern Alberta and Northwest Territories have used controlled burning to manage their environment in an intelligent and symbiotic way.

They used a ubiquitous technology essential to humankind’s survival (the mastery of fire) to support and accelerate the natural cleansing and renewing process of nature. With fire the Dene made space for healing and food plants where only weeds and deadwood grew, and invited grazing animals to return.

This is a beautiful real-world example of how humanity’s mastery of technology can be used to support nature and the natural renewal process taking place in all ecosystems.  It is anything but an exploitative model. It is a model of intelligent stewardship; of harmony; of mutual symbiosis…real “best practices.”

Forest Management Experts from Alberta and BC to California are waking up and taking note of this large-picture view.  Moving from forest-management to ecosystem-management has many benefits.  We support the ecosystem; the organizing and problem-solving power of the ecosystem does the rest.

PeapodLife brings precisely this ecosystem-management and support methodology to commercial and residential buildings via our indoor ecosystems.

The result is Advanced Human Habitat:
  • Freshest Air
  • Living Water
  • Organic Local Food
  • Beautiful Natural Rainforest Aesthetic
  • Positive Energetic Enhancement
  • Improved Relaxation
  • Greater Invigoration
  • And so much more.

We challenge commercial and residential building science experts to recognize the wisdom of the Dene and others.  It’s time to see the big picture of true sustainability, in buildings, communities and the world as a whole!

Seven Steps of Truly Sustainable Building Science:
  1. Use our best know-how (ancient and modern) and technologies,
  2. Evolve beyond simple component-based and mechanical systems-based methodologies,
  3. Learn from nature’s own best practices (biomimicry; Eco-mimicry),
  4. Work with nature harmonically,
  5. Manage and support natural ecosystem-based methodologies,
  6. Accelerate and enhance ecosystems’ abilities to grow, learn, adapt and provide,
  7. Enjoy the benefits of living in mutual symbiosis with nature in our homes, businesses, etc.
Whether you’re a residential building science expert, a commercial building developer, building management company, green real estate investor, owner of a spa, hotel or retirement home, or a home/condo resident wanting to live sustainably in harmony with nature, Connect with PeapodLife.

Rooted in Sophistication

Image: WHEN THE HORSE DIES 2008 digital painting 18 X 24 inches by Rick Simpson

Award-Winning Digital Art is a Metaphor for BEST – Building EcoSystems & Technology

“All great art is the work of the whole living creature, body and soul, and chiefly the soul.”

“It is the inspiration of the artist's knowledge and emotion that breathes life into ink, paper and other media.  Without it, art   ceases to be anything more than pure decoration.  Aesthetic, emotional or spiritual value derived from art results from self-discovery.  For [digital artist] Rick Simpson, this process is now purely intuitive, not motivated consciously with each element planned in advance. This is the true nature of art and his artwork embodies the essence of this philosophy.”
Rick Simpson: The World of Fantastic Imagination
Source: Rick Simpson’s website, “ALTKUNST”

These are the sentiments of Rick Simpson, ARTROM Gallery’s 2009 first-place award-winning digital artist. They are as appropriate to describe the work of living wall pioneer and Master EcoSystem Craftsman, Wolfgang Amelung, as they are for describing Rick Simpson’s artwork.

Of Rick Simposon’s work, Tony Shanuel, Jury Member for ARTROM Gallery 2009, said:

“I was intrigued by its primal yet sophisticated nature. Sophistication without purpose or context can be a gimmick and a clever sleight of hand. In digital art, this is an easy trap to fall into. There is none of this in Rick's work. There is a painterly quality to the work that merges seamlessly with the digital medium. I judge that's not an easy feat to accomplish.

“I also was fascinated with the archetypal imagery.”

Clearly, substance is of utmost importance when it comes to art. True sophistication is rooted in substance; value; and, if we tie everything back to the quotation we opened this article with, that substance—true value—comes from “chiefly the soul.”

It’s not enough to make something complicated, technical, overly fancy or noticeably aesthetic. All these modern-day marketing devices are often just that: clever ploys at manipulation; superficial lipstick n’ rouge masking relatively shallow underlay. True substance has depth.

PeapodLife is the BEST precisely because it has real depth, rooted in sophistication. Hand-made, artisan-crafted technology enabling the very essence of life to thrive in ways no other technology currently available on the market can come close to, let alone duplicate.

There are many pretenders: hydropnic living walls, soil-based living walls, indoor gardens, indoor ponds, aquaponics, the list goes on. Each will say it is the most technologically advanced, most proven, most aesthetically pleasing, most...whatever.

None are rooted in the level of sophistication and artistry—true mastery— as PeapodLife. Over 30+ years of real-world research, development and commercial application in companies ranging from Club Monaco to Canada Life. Dozens of homes and small offices.

PeapodLife is that rarest breed of modern artisan natural technologies: substance, quality, integrity. Our customers know the BEST when they see it. They demand nothing but the BEST. Nature at Her very BEST so we can be at our BEST: Relaxed, Aware, Healthy, Human...AHH!

PeapodLife – Rooted in Sophistication.

When are Human Beings at their BEST?

Achieving a State of Optimal Well Being and Peak Performance

Our “Best.”

It’s something almost everyone is looking for in one way or another. We want the best job, so we can get the best house, drive the best car, wear the best clothes, and attract the best life partner. We care most for our best friend. We follow the news to see who’s best in the world, knowing the most any of us can ever hope to achieve is our personal best.

And what is that? What does it mean to be “at our best?” And how does one go about achieving it?

There have been countless self-help books and lectures on topics ranging from “personal power” to “peak performance.” Their tone ranges from dry secular theory to borderline religious fervor.

The New Age movement promises an impending “Golden Age” just around the corner in which human beings are all at their very best. Allegedly, all we need to do is align ourselves with its higher vibrations (think positive, feel good, etc).

Regardless of what you believe it means to be at your best and what you can do on a personal level to achieve it, there is unequivocal scientific evidence (and common sense) to support the simple notion that we are heavily conditioned by our environment.

For instance: we are what we eat. “GIGO:” garbage in; garbage out. If we surround ourselves with negative people and influences, there is a good chance they will influence us in a negative way. Environment affects us mentally, emotionally and physically. Fairly straightforward.

So what is the best environment? Nature.

Nature is the only environment that simultaneously calms the nerves while elevating the senses. Our natural state as human beings is one of wellness, peace & harmony. It is the state we all strive for, and the state we are happiest when we manage to achieve. It is, in a word, our best.

To achieve our best state naturally, a natural environment is what’s best for us. It makes sense. The healthiest air, water and food is naturally produced air, water and food. It’s not called “the Great Outdoors” for nothing.

Practically speaking, we can’t work or study outdoors in the middle of January in Canada. The next best thing is to bring the best of the natural environment indoors: the ecosystem.

This is what PeapodLife does. We help you be at your best with the BEST—Building EcoSystems & Technology. Our ecosystems create living walls which not only look amazing, they make you feel incredible—revitalized and alert, yet soothed and relaxed.

BEST environments naturally promote a state of wellness, peace & harmony—the natural state of any high-order ecosystem—which is the natural state of human beings. It is in this state that we feel at our best, function at our optimal efficiency, and are most resilient to any threats to our health & wellness.

Everybody knows that relaxed yet elevated feeling of “AHH!” It’s why we call it Advanced Human Habitat. It’s not just advanced habitat for humans, it’s habitat for advanced humans. Humans at their best conditioned by environments at their BEST: at work, rest and play.

AHH! Be at your BEST with PeapodLife.

The Most Powerful Force in the Universe

Image By PeapodLife: Where there is Love there is Life: like peas in a pod…PeapodLife

“Where there is love, there is life.”
~ Mohandas Ghandi

The Most Powerful Force in the Universe
Now Available for Your Home, Workplace, Health & Wellness Centre, more…

It’s the rarest thing in the universe (or so it seems). Life.

Do you take life for granted sometimes? How much life do you surround yourself with? At work? At home? Do you feel stressed? Rushed? Stretched? Maxed out, even?

What about love? Do you feel loved? Do you feel love itself? Do you feel love for others? Or, like so many in this day and age, are you filled with cynicism—sick and tired of the way things are?

If the above quote by Mahatma Ghandi is any indication, there is a strong connection between life and love. And does not love conquer all? Surely Ghandi new a thing or two about conquering with love.

All the stress. All the anxiety. All the suffering. What’s the one antidote? The warm yet cooling sensation of love. The relaxing yet invigorating feeling of love. The soothing yet strengthening presence of love.

Doesn’t nature, life, not have the same effect?

Where there is love, there is life. The reverse is also true. Nature is love, because love is the essence of nature: the most powerful force in the universe. Nature is integrity itself. It feeds the body, stimulates the mind, nourishes the soul.

“One Love, One Life, when it’s One Need in the Night.”

We could all use a little more of this most powerful force in our lives. For that reason, people have tried for millennia to describe it, capture it, create it, bottle it, etc. And certainly, we all are guilty of “looking for love in all the wrong places.”

Look no further. Life and Love are like two peas in a pod. Now you can enjoy the essence of life, love, the most powerful force in the universe, wherever you live, work, heal, etc.

Life and love as one. Peas in a pod. This is the essence of PeapodLife.

So what makes PeapodLife living wall ecosystems so special? What about other’s green walls, living walls, hydroponic gardens, etc? Don’t they accomplish the same thing?

Don’t take our word for it. Experience the difference for yourself…spend a few minutes, hours, days, weeks with our competitors’ living walls and other systems. Observe how they whither, atrophy, and die over time. How does all this make you feel?

Now stand next to a PeapodLife ecosystem for 30 seconds. Feel the difference for yourself. Experience our ecosystems as minutes melt into hours, days, weeks, months, years. Observe how they grow, flourish, thrive, with no soil and no fertilizers. Only bi-monthly or quarterly Eco-care by PeapodLife specialists. How does living surrounded by the very essence of life itself make you feel?

So what about indoor gardens, potted plants, etc.? Surely they survive for years?

Not soil. That faint aroma of putrefying soil which you need to regularly change or fertilize is the telltale sign of perpetual death and decay. How do you think such artificial life support really affects you?

So what’s our secret? How has PeapodLife managed to accomplish what humanity couldn’t over thousands of years, and what took Mother Nature billions of years to accomplish!?

There is no secret, really. We simply observed; listened. Mother Nature showed us exactly what she needed. We helped her be at her very best, love, even amidst the largely lifeless, heartless spaces of modern society. In return, our indoor ecosystems thrive and produce the very essence of life.

Practically speaking, everything we need to feed our bodies, minds and souls: purest natural air, water, food…all with love. We reap what we sow. This is PeapodLife’s secret…where there is love there is life.

REVOLUTION – the Film about Changing the World Gives a Call to Action PeapodLife is Answering

In Revolution, Toronto filmmaker Rob Stewart trains his camera lens and dramatic, emotional storytelling talents squarely on the ultimate subjects of every great tragedy: humanity.

Acclaimed filmmaker Rob Stewart is once again swimming with Sharks. Only this time, the creatures in danger include everyone sitting in the theatre. Literally.

Stewart’s 2007 film Sharkwater was universally acclaimed by both critics and audiences (scoring 79% and 88% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes “Tomatometer”). One could see how general audiences, although moved and wowed by the gorgeous cinematography and passionate storytelling might not warm up to creatures which are regularly featured on television as cold-blooded, bloodthirsty killers.

In Revolution, Stewart trains his camera lens and dramatic, emotional storytelling talents squarely on the ultimate subjects of every great tragedy: humanity.

"In the past, we thought we had to save the polar bears, we thought we had to save the environment. But it's about us, it's about OUR future."
– Revolution - Open Your Eyes Trailer

Here is a link to an interview with Rob Stewart at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival: Revolution 2012 TIFF Interview. It is clear from the passion and determination in his voice that this Toronto, Canada-born marine biologist was born for this.

But he also seems a little tired and drained after the 4 years it took to film his second feature-length documentary. So is he ready for the REAL sharks (the ones running the show)? Listen to him describe his struggle to raise money for Revolution, even after his success with Sharkwater!

PeapodLife recognizes all the efforts of filmmakers, authors, poets, artists, activists, organizations, volunteers and everyday heroes all over the world fighting the good fight for Divine Mother Nature.  She is under real threat: the precious rare jewel of a planet we call home, all the creatures of the earth, and yes, us…her children (and we are children: from our behavior, that much is clear).

We need a new kind of support: PeapodLife: technology, ecology and humanity like peas in a pod - Advanced Human Habitat!

We need a new kind of support. We need a new kind of life support. We need a life support system that will create not only advanced habitat for humans, but also habitat for advanced humans. We Need Advanced Human Habitat.

We need to recognize our connection to the existing life support system on this planet. The real Revolution is to change the way we see science and technology: not as a means to control, command, dissect and exploit Mother Nature, but to support, comprehend, and align with her life-giving and conscious-raising capabilities.

We need a new kind of “lifepod.” Not the life-pod of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and other sci-fi films, with artificial life support systems, mechanized bio-systems, ecological bio-chemical systems, cybernetic systems, genetically modified organisms…all of which is trying to make its mark in the world.

We need PeapodLife: technology, ecology and humanity like peas in a pod, in accordance with 11 billion years of Mother Nature’s organizational evolutionary genius: ECOSYSTEMS.  By supporting that life support system, we will be making a real revolution: the revolution against the part of ourselves which insists we are not a part of Mother Nature.

But we are. She is the peapod in PeapodLife. The BEST life lies within her nurturing womb…Advanced Human Habitat…PeapodLife. And who knows? After sometime living in PeapodLife, we might even emerge from that nurturing habitat as truly Advanced Humans.
